Jazzy Amra

“When it rains it pours, but it can’t pour forever.” Those words are the driving motivation behind Jazzy Amra’s journey thus far. Born and raised in New York City, 19 year-old Jazzy’s earliest memories of music revolved around her mother singing to her, classic songs such as R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly,” The Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly,” and Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart.” Growing up in unimaginable circumstances with her siblings, and placed in foster care and eventually a foster family, Jazzy’s life changed for the better at the age of five, when her aunt adopted her.

Reflecting fondly on her mother singing to her – the only strong memory she has of her – Jazzy used those memories to connect to her mother during her loneliness while growing up, turning to music during the tribulations along her journey, and singing when she found privacy. Gaining positive feedback, Jazzy began religiously attending BET’s Hip Hop and R&B video show 106 & Park, singing in the crowd during commercial breaks, to test her talent amidst her eventual target audience.

Deeply rooted in R&B, Jazzy draws inspiration from and immerses herself in the 1990’s and 2000’s classics such as TLC, 112, Boyz II Men, Donell Jones, Brandy, Aaliyah and Missy Elliot, appreciating the feel of hip-hop over R&B beats, a style she hopes to reflect in her own music. With a goal to reach beyond her R&B roots, Jazzy envisions herself breaking into multiple genres, connecting to the masses, and using her music to uplift the lives of those in similar situations.

From her early beginnings of watching her mother sing 1990’s classics to her, to the self-doubt she experienced with her music, her journey has brought her to a place full of inspiration and opportunities as she works beside the Heads team, continuously gaining invaluable knowledge from the people she encounters, and learning to trust the process.
